Gamesoul gets its own games

Mike | News, GameSoul News | Monday, July 9th, 2007

gamesoularcade.jpg
The Gamesoul forum has introduced a new mod, the Gamesoul Arcade.

So far it’s a bit small with only 9 games but we’ve got eagle eyes for adding more games to the assortment.

So far we have a couple of the classics including:

  • Asteroids
  • Pacman
  • Snake
  • Hexxagon
  • Moon Lander
  • Space Invaders
  • Tetris
  • Simon
  • and Breakout

You will have to register on the forum(even if you have already registered here on the website side) to play the arcade. From there feel free to wander over to the Arcade .

You can challenge us, the other members of the forum or just challenge yourself to reach new high scores.

See you there, I’ve got some high scores to beat.

Nintendo Power to shut down?

zenywolf | News, GameSoul News, Industry News | Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

nintendo_power_august_2006_issuea.jpg

You heard it here folks, rumors are flying through the internet that Nintendo’s official magazine, Nintendo Power, might be killed.

The rumor comes from the fact that Nintendo has started to perform massive layoffs, and told those employees that they had to find work before this September.

Though nothing is certain, if anything happens Nintendo Power might become published by a third party. We’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Mario+Sonic
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being with Gamesoul thus far, as a little treat for you all every now and then we, the editors, will post a rant of sorts that reflect our opinions on current gaming news. We’ll touch from the smallest to the most controversial of subjects! We hope that you enjoy, and please do not take this so harshly. We are all entitled to our opinions, after all.

Today, we’ll be discussing the freshly launched news of the Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog crossover, also known as Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games. Many people have felt as if this crossover was predestined and was always meant to be. While others, such as extreme fanboys despise the idea.

Zenywolf: Personally, I for one support and applaud the idea of a crossover between the two. Why, you ask? Simply because two rivals who have been going at it for so long, finally get together to answer one of gaming’s (if not largest) biggest question — Who is superior? Our friendly Italian plumber, or our super-speedy hedgehog Sonic?I cannot stand people who go against the idea of a crossover. I keep hearing comments like “What? First Final Fantasy meets [ in Mario Hoops for the Nintendo DS] Mario, and now this?” and “Nintendo is slowly becoming a crossover whore!”. You know what I have to say about this? I say that no matter how much ranting you do, it simply will not stop this crossover from happening. Shigeru Miyamoto and Yuji Naka have both been wanting this for over a decade! They have spent most of their time providing entertainment, hobbies, and fun to people everywhere. When people rant against this crossover, they sound rather ungrateful for the gifts they have given the general public. Perhaps this time they’re not only trying to making everyone happy, but perhaps they want to have some fun themselves. So I say, let them have it!Mike: Well spoken Zenywolf, I totally agree.

Seriously, what could it possibly matter? It’s nice to see that these companies can keep their rivalries behind themselves. They aren’t like fanboys and they don’t have a deep hatred for everyone else except for what they stand for. They are willing to work together professionally like this. They are doing what they would consider fun and for the best of us.

What about this game? Sounds like some fun. Like Super Smash Brothers but less smashing. Not only that but I’m sure it might help to answer some of the “If Mario and Sonic were to fight, who do you think would win?” kinda questions. Now only if we can get Superman and Batman to go at it like this and we’d have 90% of those “who do you think would win in a fight?” questions answered.

Amazing? Not really.
A new concept for gaming companies? Sure.
A good role model for fanboys? Yes

It’s some good gaming fun. If this turns out well I want a sequel with more characters.

Unstable: You both make some valid points, but I can’t stand any of those cross-overs. And that’s probably just me. I like Mario and Sonic equally, but when it ends up like that crappy movie that had the Jetsons and Flinstones meeting, there’ll be an “I told you so.”

But Mike, it’s not a new concept. Look at Capcom vs SNK. That’s old. Companies, not just gaming but movies also, have been milking the “cross-over” cow for a while.

I personally think that the cross-over will be kinda dumb. But that could be because I don’t want to see Sonic or Mario ruined. Only time will tell.

And that’s it for this edition of Game Soul rant! Next time, we plan on having a bigger and badder discussion, one that’ll give you what you’ve always wanted - journalists walling on each other!

Woman dies for a Wii

zenywolf | News, Wii, GameSoul News | Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Jennifer Strange

Jennifer Strange, 28, died at home shortly after a contest hosted by a radio station known as KDND 107.9. The prize? A Nintendo Wii. The contest? Simple, each contestant had to drink provided bottles of water. Whoever drank the most bottles and held in their urine the longest would win a Nintendo Wii.

Despite the warnings the radio station had given the contestants about not putting their well-being in danger, Jennifer insisted and went on.

She won the Nintendo Wii, but it wasn’t as free as advertised. The cost? Her life. She was found death due to liquid intoxication.

Our sincerest wishes go out to her 3 kids and the rest of her family.

Gamesoul is growing, and you can help

Well, as some of us know, Gamesoul has been on the rise lately. Two of our articles made front page on Digg. The first one gave us the boost we really needed and the second one, I’d say, solidified that jump. Gamesoul’s stats for those two days passed into the thousands of hits, upwards of 6,000 hits each :) (Thanks to James and Snid again for writing those articles. Great fact finding and writing from both of you.)

Except, that isn’t surprsing(it’s still great though). Front page on digg.com tends to do that. However what did surprise me is that the stats continued on the rise. Typically we had about 120-150 hits per day. We’ve picked up into the 250+ hits a day range now, on average, and it seems to be staying there. The day after the second story disappeared from digg it still pulled in 700+ hits and very few were actually from Digg. We’re getting linked to from everywhere. Forums, blogs, websites, etc. It’s exciting to watch the stats jump up everyday. We’re linked from everywhere to those articles and a couple others.

Secondly, I want to point out that the guests that are currently reading this. YOU can be part of Gamesoul. Seriously…I’m not messing with your mind or anything. YOU can write for Gamesoul. Please feel free to contact either Admin on the forum. Registering is free, like most sites on the web. You can make an application here or contact an Admin by clicking here. It’s easy to apply and even easier to get accepted right now. Gamesoul may never offer and oppourtunity like to to write for us ever again. What can you lose?

And lastly, I want to thank all of our current members. From the writers who make the actual news even possible to the members who come here every day just to see what’s up. You’re the cornerstone of Gamesoul. We’d be nothing but just another website without you.

I thought I’d keep all of you in the loop. Admins shouldn’t the only ones to know a little about Gamesoul.

Anyways thanks for being there,
Mike and Aldo
