MySims On DS

XxKittyxX | News, Nintendo DS, Reviews, Strategy | Thursday, October 4th, 2007

ea-mysims-1.jpg

The MySims look is very different from previous sims games, very similar to animal crossing. But the plot of the game much reminded me of The Sims 2 on DS. As this game has a new cute look, it will appeal to more of a younger generation of fun-loving DS players.

The game drops you into the role as the town hero, as you’ll have to get this ruined town back on its feet. Like the Sims 2, you have to work for the mayor and improve the towns rank. It lacks a creative side though, as it only involves dressing your character and furnishing your new home.

Players have a map of the town, showing the villagers living there. Its very similar to animal crossing in that respect, as you have to introduce yourself to villagers, and save up for things. Overall, i can’t wait to buy it for myself. But it does sound like a game i could quickly get bored of!

Up the Down Escalator

Unstable | News, Console, XBOX 360, Reviews, Video Games, Genre, Action | Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Name a game other than Dead Rising where you are locked in a mall that is being over run with zombies and anything can be used as a weapon. Just try. I dare you. Can’t do it? Well, that’s why I have a review right here.

Graphics: 8.5/10

Ah…nothing like blood splahed all over a grown man wearing little kids clothes, women’s slippers and a MegaMan helmet and you get what my character looks like. The character models look amazing, that includes the zombies.

Audio: 9/10

I never thought that zombies moaning as a lawnmower runs over them could ever sound so great, but, this game does a great job of making that happen. The voices and other, non-zombie related sounds are great as well.

Controls: 7/10

They just take a few minutes of getting used to and then…they’re still a little awkward. Don’t let this deter you though!

General Gameplay: 8/10

The gameplay is fun. Shooting, impaling, stabbing, smacking and kicking zombies never gets old. Especially in a large environment with other hazards about and plenty of characters to interact with ranging from a survivor (who will be talking about their trip to the mall with therapists for years to come) to a maniacal, chainsaw-weilding clown who won’t let kids get off of a roller coaster that’s easily going 60+ miles per hour. Challenging, yet forgiving, this game will provide hours of fun.

Overall: 8/10

If you ever find yourself looking at a shelf of videogames wondering what to get, this game definitely deserves a second look.

Is the PS3 really any good?

Kash-Jnr | News, Console, Ps3, Reviews, Video Games, Industry News | Monday, July 9th, 2007

sony-announces-ps3-setbacks-20060906111737962.jpg

Well you gotta say the PS3 does look amazingly obscene with its J. Lo curves and its Ice Cube grill. I proudly own one of the amazing machines but with all my biaset comments as such I will put them in the cupboard and lock them up and really see if its worth around £500.

Well the GUI (Graphical User Interface) well for some of you normal people this is just the menu screen which basically the same as the PSP menu but with just one different menu this is the user where you can set up your account for each other. So really they have not made the menu any advanced compared to the processor power which is included in the PSP. Another great thing but can be awkward menu is freinds which can be very useful but chat and other things have not been devolped fairly well but can be sorted through firmware.

The PS3 is definetly over priced but if used to full capabilities, is a machine to have but many customers just wanna play games so this is overlooked as a pricy console but soon people will appreciate this console…

Is this just another failure such as the UMD . . .

NEWS UPDATE: Sony may scrap UMD.

Perfect Dark Zero

Unstable | News, Console, XBOX 360, Reviews, Video Games, Genre, Action | Saturday, June 9th, 2007

pd0.jpg

The prequel to the N64 hit Perfect Dark takes place a few years prior, but you still do everything through the eyes of (a younger) Joanna Dark.

The weapons in this are nothing like they were in the original Perfect Dark, however they’re nothing to spit on. You still have a wide range of options ranging from pistols, like the Falcon and P9P to sniper rifles, like the Jackal. There are some new weapons like the P9P and some old ones make a return including the Falcon and CMP150.

The controls can be a bit much when reading them in the game’s manual but once you get going in the game they feel natural and easy.

This game has excellent graphics and audio. The character models look good and no detail was spared, be it just the shells sticking out of a shotgun or the way the hands move around when you’re running with a gun. The graphics also look pretty realistic with shadows and reflections. The audio also nails even the basic sound effects ranging from shattering glass and footsteps in the snow.

The multiplayer is even good with 6 maps that have several variations in size, so it’s like there are 3 maps for each one, and two main modes. The DeathMatch mode includes “KillCount” and “Team KillCount” which are standard death matches, ”Capture the Flag” which should be self-explanitory and “Territorial Gain” where you gain points by taking over and keeping territories.

Finally, the other mode is “DarkOps” which is like the “fy_” maps in CounterStrike. The object is to kill all the people on the other team.

Overall, this game is a must-have for any fan of the original Perfect Dark and people who play first person shooters. Here is how I break it down:

Controls: 8/10

Graphics: 9/10

Audio: 9/10

Multiplayer: 7/10

Overall: 8.25/10

FreeStyle Metal X:PS2

XxKittyxX | News, Console, Ps2, Reviews, Video Games, Sports | Thursday, April 12th, 2007

ps21.jpg
When I first set my eyes upon this game, I was pretty sure it was going to be another normal racing game. Watching my step brother drive around on a bike playing this game, I realize now that this game is anything from normal, it’s completely mad!

Like other games, there are many levels to unlock plus unlockable bikes and racers. I was amazed at the range of levels, from farms to supermarkets! During this game, you can complete many different challenges, but I prefer to drive about acting like a complete freak (called freestyle), as you probably will do if you purchase this game.

This game takes you to a whole new level. What I love about this game is that its freestyle, completey. It lets you go wherever and whenever you want to go, there are no limits. FreeStyle Metal X is a completely crazy game. It’s not one of those games with ridiculous restrictions, you can get killed by animals and you can even kill them too. I had a ton of fun endlessly killing the poor wolves included in this game.

However there is not just freestyle and challenges, you can race the area champions, do freakishly cool stunts (that really give you hydrenalyne) and race big air style.

Sound: 8.5/10

There is non stop hardcore rock music in the background, and of course the painful shrieks of your driver as he takes one step closer to his death.

Graphics: 8/10

Great graphics! Brilliant, but the only thing that annoys me is the low quality of trees, apart from that excellent.

Overall: 9/10

Awesome game, it has everything you would want in it, plus more. I strongly encourage you to buy this game, it will fulfill weeks of endless enjoyment.

ChickchickBoom

Easily one of the most addictive games ever. Well, I might be exaggerating a little here but it is definitely a lot of fun. Not only that but Nintendo is sponsoring it. How insanely awesome.

The game is simple. You have 5 chicks that resemble small yellow blobs. You enemy, Poster Bunny, also has 5 chicks but their an evil black. Actually, it’s pretty hard to call them evil when you look at them. How much more innocent could they possibly get? However you’ll have to shove all this innocence aside when Poster Bunny throws everything from weights to lightning storms to balloons that will carry your chicks away into the heights of a low oxygen content atmosphere(meaning they die).

You must kill his chicks before he kills yours. How do you unleash your attacks? You draw the shapes of the attack you want to throw. There’s no turns so it’s an quick all out battle of defense and attack. What happens if you win? Nintendo will offer you an Nintendo themed wallpaper for download. I would share them all for you guys but I’m pretty sure there’s some copyright law Gamesoul is going to have to respect.
It’s too hard to describe, so check it out yourself. Click the link below and play but remember to do your work, this game may cause intense distraction.

Enchanted Arms

Unstable | News, Console, XBOX 360, RPG / MMORPG, Reviews, Video Games, Genre | Sunday, February 11th, 2007

enchantedarms.jpg

Enchanted Arms is a nice RPG for the XBox 360 that I’ve had for quite a while now.

This game is about a college student named Atsuma who is studying a magic known as Enchanting. One day, a powerful monster called a devil golem gets revived and his journey begins.]

Gameplay: 7.5/10

The battle system is a little bit weird. It works as a 4×6 grid divided into two 4×3 grids. Your characters on one side, the enemies on the other. Each attack covers a certain number of grid squares and hurts any enemies that has any part intersecting the area being attacked.

Something that makes this gameplay good is that you aren’t just limited to your main characters. You can also find and kill monsters called golems. When you kill a golem you find, you get its core and can synthesize it at a shop.

Another thing that makes this game unique is that after each battle your HP goes back to full. However, something called Vitality Points runs down with each battle and when they reach 0 your HP goes down to 1.

Graphics: 10/10

These graphics are just the excellent graphics people have come to expect from the XBox 360. The graphics from the in-game movies are even better.

Audio: 8/10

The music and sound effects aren’t the best in this game, but they’re still good. Music is fitting, it’s not like elevator music will be playing while you’re in an intense battle. The voice acting could be better though.

Overall: 9/10

Overall this is another great by Ubisoft, though it’s not exactly a traditional style RPG. I think in many ways this makes it even better.

“Turn the Tide”

Unstable | News, Console, Ps2, XBOX, XBOX 360, HandHelds, PSP, Reviews, Video Games, Sports, Genre | Monday, January 29th, 2007

ncaa07.jpg

“Turn the Tide” is the main idea behind the latest installment in the NCAA Football series by EA Sports. This shows how much momentum has to do with college football.

Gameplay: 8/10

The gameplay in NCAA Football 07 is very nice on the 360, which I have it on. It seems like a lot of issues with the gameplay have been resolved compared to the XBox version of 07, like much smoother in-game play and some pretty entertaining mini-games; Bowling, where you try to go 10 yards to the endzone in 1 play to get a “strike” or in 2 for the “spare” and Tug of War where the first team to get either a safety or touchdown wins and this game works by elternating offense and defense every other play.

Graphics: 9/10

The graphics are excellent and detailed, much like its NFL counterpart Madden NFL 07. Every detail is visible. Even the field looks realistic towards the forth quarter by showing where the players had been treading and by making it even look wet when it rains.

Audio: 8/10

The audio is good and the voices are clear. The crowds sound realistic and so do the referees when they have to call a penalty. Not much else to talk about here though.

Overall: 8.5/10

Overall, this is a pretty good game that deserves to be picked up by anyone who is even slightly into college football, whether you’re a mild mannered KU Jayhawks fan or an enthusiastic USC Trojan fanatic.
