Gameboy blamed for death of 7-year old boy

James | News, HandHelds, Gameboys, Video Games, Industry News | Friday, January 5th, 2007

Deadly Gameboy
Hi, everyone at Gamesoul and people just browsing. I haven’t been posting that many articles due to problems with my PC account (I needed to make a new one) and holidays. Enough about me though, and onto the main article.

Connor O’ Keefe (7) was electrocuted while unplugging a Gameboy charger in his hotel room, while on holiday in Thailand. Local police commented on the tragic death, saying it was ‘most likely to have occurred when the boy attempted to use the electrical equipment while still wet, returning from the hotel’s swimming pool.’

The Telegraph newspaper interviewed the manager (Wiraporn Ungathakorn) of the hotel (Sunset Beach Hotel) in Thailand, and I quote: “The water must have gone straight into the plug. The safety cut could not save him. He was found by his parents in the room and we sent him to hospital by ambulance. Doctors could not save him. The hotel has paid his medical fees. This was just a tragic accident.”

However, the Mirror, in an interview with the boy’s mother (Kathleen Curry), denied to claims, saying that ‘Connor was totally aware of the dangers of electricity’. She also said that “There should be some kind of warning about the different electrical currents you get abroad because this would not have happened in England.”

In response to the story, a spokesperson for Nintendo said that; “Nintendo wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Connor O’ Keefe. Details of the accident are currently unclear so we are unable to make any further comment at this stage.”

Reporting again, James.

Game Boy Advance To Be Around For ONE MORE Year

Snid | News, Gameboys, Video Games | Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Nintendo of America’s head president Reggie Fils-Aime said it himself. The precious Game Boy Advance will be around for one more holiday season till it’s done with itself. Reggie says..

“We think that Game Boy Advance certainly has at least one more holiday season left in it. For us, it continues to be a great stepping stone for five-, six-, seven-year-old consumers to have their first great handheld gaming experience and then transition right into DS.”

Looks like the Game Boy Advance from then on will be a prep system for people ready to have/use a DS. I sure hope they make a new type of Game Boy even if we’re in the DS/DS Lite era.

The Gameboy Micro is an adaptation of the Gameboy Advance and SP.

It’s smaller, sleeker and brighter than the previous two versions of the Gameboy series. It also comes in various themes and colours. The faceplate can be removed and exchanged for a color that suits your style better. It also plays normal Nintendo Gameboy Advance/SP games.
