Mario+Sonic
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for being with Gamesoul thus far, as a little treat for you all every now and then we, the editors, will post a rant of sorts that reflect our opinions on current gaming news. We’ll touch from the smallest to the most controversial of subjects! We hope that you enjoy, and please do not take this so harshly. We are all entitled to our opinions, after all.

Today, we’ll be discussing the freshly launched news of the Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog crossover, also known as Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games. Many people have felt as if this crossover was predestined and was always meant to be. While others, such as extreme fanboys despise the idea.

Zenywolf: Personally, I for one support and applaud the idea of a crossover between the two. Why, you ask? Simply because two rivals who have been going at it for so long, finally get together to answer one of gaming’s (if not largest) biggest question — Who is superior? Our friendly Italian plumber, or our super-speedy hedgehog Sonic?I cannot stand people who go against the idea of a crossover. I keep hearing comments like “What? First Final Fantasy meets [ in Mario Hoops for the Nintendo DS] Mario, and now this?” and “Nintendo is slowly becoming a crossover whore!”. You know what I have to say about this? I say that no matter how much ranting you do, it simply will not stop this crossover from happening. Shigeru Miyamoto and Yuji Naka have both been wanting this for over a decade! They have spent most of their time providing entertainment, hobbies, and fun to people everywhere. When people rant against this crossover, they sound rather ungrateful for the gifts they have given the general public. Perhaps this time they’re not only trying to making everyone happy, but perhaps they want to have some fun themselves. So I say, let them have it!Mike: Well spoken Zenywolf, I totally agree.

Seriously, what could it possibly matter? It’s nice to see that these companies can keep their rivalries behind themselves. They aren’t like fanboys and they don’t have a deep hatred for everyone else except for what they stand for. They are willing to work together professionally like this. They are doing what they would consider fun and for the best of us.

What about this game? Sounds like some fun. Like Super Smash Brothers but less smashing. Not only that but I’m sure it might help to answer some of the “If Mario and Sonic were to fight, who do you think would win?” kinda questions. Now only if we can get Superman and Batman to go at it like this and we’d have 90% of those “who do you think would win in a fight?” questions answered.

Amazing? Not really.
A new concept for gaming companies? Sure.
A good role model for fanboys? Yes

It’s some good gaming fun. If this turns out well I want a sequel with more characters.

Unstable: You both make some valid points, but I can’t stand any of those cross-overs. And that’s probably just me. I like Mario and Sonic equally, but when it ends up like that crappy movie that had the Jetsons and Flinstones meeting, there’ll be an “I told you so.”

But Mike, it’s not a new concept. Look at Capcom vs SNK. That’s old. Companies, not just gaming but movies also, have been milking the “cross-over” cow for a while.

I personally think that the cross-over will be kinda dumb. But that could be because I don’t want to see Sonic or Mario ruined. Only time will tell.

And that’s it for this edition of Game Soul rant! Next time, we plan on having a bigger and badder discussion, one that’ll give you what you’ve always wanted - journalists walling on each other!
