Yes, Nintendo did confirm it. It was said that an “updated” Wii Consoles that are manufactured in 2007 will have DVD Playback. Nothing has been said on any other regions of having this. Only Japan will have these updated Wii DVD Movie Capable Consoles. It may change, who knows?

It’s not that necessary, DVD players and DVDs are the VHS of today. It’s been said that 90% of the consumer market in electronics has a DVD Player of some sort, so it’s not necessary.

Wii + DVD Movie Playback Feature = Not Necessary, But still another DVD Player.

Since Wii reads DVD Format Discs for Wii and GameCube games, someone of a known gaming peripheral maker most likely will create something that plugs into a USB port in the Wii (Once Nintendo’s idea, but canceled the peripheral due to realizing it’s not necessary), and allows you to watch DVD Movies.

Either that, or find a way to mod it. Okay?
